Chicago Fundred Initiative: A Bill for IL

The Fundred Project is partnering with the Smart Museum of Art on an exciting new Fundred initiative in the city of Chicago.

In July of 2021, the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago will present Toward Common Cause: Art, Social Change, and the MacArthur Program at 40. In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the MacArthur Fellows Program, this multi-site exhibition uses the idea of "the commons" to explore the current socio-political moment, in which questions of inclusion, exclusion, ownership, and rights of access are constantly being challenged across a wide array of human endeavors.

As part of this effort, Mel brings the Fundred Project to the Chicago, launching Fundred Project Initiative: A Bill for IL. With the Hyde Park Art Center and Sweet Water Foundation, we begin collecting Fundreds in May of 2020. The accumulated Fundreds will constitute the Chicago Fundred Reserve and will be on view during the exhibition.
